The Men Who Stare at Goats (2009)
When I saw the trailer, I wanted to go, but when the movie came out in theaters, evil tongues dissuaded me. Literally - "dull, drawn-out shit". After such advice I lost faith in the reviews on search engines and other sites.
One look at that macho mustache and all the goats drop dead.
Two-thirds of the movie is great. The story about the watch from Pulp Fiction comes to mind, only here it's more fully disclosed,) which in itself is a success, I think.
The beginning of the film is banal. It begins with an interview in which a journo learns about a certain secret US program to train telepathic soldiers in the 80s. After that, a series of events, after which the journalist leaves his wife. To divorce himself he did "what many men do whose heart is broken by women - he went off to war." There he meets the Jedi warrior Lyn Cassady - who was the most powerful telepath on earth in that very secret US program.
Then comes the insanely cool plot devices, of which I will not say, except... gradually the journalist learns more and more about the secret program, and we are spoiled with inserts from Lyn's past - during his training at the Jedi Warriors' School.
The remaining third suddenly becomes serious, which immediately spoils the whole celebration. And in spite of the fact that towards the end of the film the guys do add some LSD and everything falls into place, an unpleasant residue remains.
In total: 7 goats with shot legs out of 10.
